| JACOB AND THE ANGEL | ||
| New Music for Orchestra by Robert Hugill a short prelude, toccata and a kind of fugue Percy Grainger Molly on the Shore Mock Morris
Franz Josef Haydn Symphony 97 |
Robert Hugill's new orchestral work, Jacob and the Angel, takes the biblical story of Jacob wrestling with an angel and gives it a new sexual twist. It envisions the wrestling turning sexual, with the two only interrupted by the coming dawn and the reluctant need to part. Inspired by texts from Genesis and the Song of Songs along with contemporary poetry, Jacob and the Angel is an exciting new piece which makes explicit that which is implicit in the original story. The concert will also include Robert's Postcards from the Fitties, inspired by his seaside childhood, and will start with his a short prelude, toccata and a kind of fugue. Continuing the seaside theme, the concert will include Percy Grainger's Molly on the Shore along with a Mock Morris and his rarely performed early work Kleine Variationen-Form. The concert will be complete by a performance of Haydn's Symphony 97. |
