Haydn's "Military" Symphony, with its extra percussion and rousing battle descriptions and Elgar's entrancing Serenade for Strings and form the centrepieces of this concert at St. James's Church, Piccadilly by the Salomon Orchestra conducted by the distinguished Elgar conductor Adrian Brown.
The programme is completed with two contrasting pieces by Robert Hugill. His lively description of life in a barbarian camp under the Romans, In the Barbarian's Camp, and Elegy for Baritone and Orchestra, a setting of Rainer Maria Rilke's Second Duino Elegy.
